Welcome, VP Introductions, Table Introductions

Asst. Principal’s Report - Cameron Wendt

  • Grant Ragan Preschool will have a part time position opening after Thanksgiving
  • Grant Ragan will be hosting a Responsive Classroom conference
  • There has been a fox visiting Grant Ragan’s playground. Staff has been working to safely and humanely relocate the fox.

Presentation - Kindergarten and 1st Grade Focus

1st grade team - Lexia:

  • Lexia is an online reading tool
  • Teachers get reports of student progress as an additional diagnostic tool to help facilitate lesson plans
  • It is important student work remains independent and help is not given by parents or older siblings
  • Parents may ask teachers for progress reports

Kindergarten team - Fundamentals of math:

  • Discussed the importance of number sense
  • Teach subitize which means knowing the number right away in different formats
  • Standards based reporting and how it works
  • Number is not just a symbol but it has meaning. Ask the students to explain how do you know?
  • Games to practice math: Tens frame cards, dice games, dominos

Committee Reports

Fundraising - Fund Monkey

  • Final number raised for Fun Run is $73,504
  • The owners of fundmonkey.com attended our meeting to present us with a check and congratulate the school
  • A portion of the money raised will be shared with Radiant Elementary School. Shuler and Walnut Hills shared funds with Grant Ragan when it opened.

Book Fair - November 8-16

  • As part of the book fair families were asked to donate gently used books from their libraries at home to add to classroom libraries. This will become an annual request.
  • All proceeds from the book fair will go directly to the library to purchase additional reading materials.

Conference Meals

  • Wednesday the teachers and staff will be treated to a trail mix bar. Special thanks to our families for donations.
  • Thursday will be a catered meal from Noodles and Company.

New Business

  • ESL Night - speaking / bottled water donation
  • Activities - Skate Night - Jan 29th, 2019
  • No meeting December
