Welcome, VP Introductions, Table Introductions

Principal’s Report

  • District continues to examine boundary changes - an open forum meeting scheduled for October 9th @ 6pm
  • Started assessments this week
  • Grant Ragan selected as host school to train others on Responsive Classroom
  • Thank you to all that worked on the fun run and apparel sales, the money raised will go in part to iPads and in classroom libraries

Special Guest - Elizabeth Olson, Waukee Foundation

Attendees learned the role of the foundation that includes professional development support and classroom grants, along with scholarships for graduates. Upcoming annual fundraising events:

  • Fall Family Event- 2018 Harlem Wizards - Oct 15
  • Auction Event - February 23
  • Golf Outing - June 10

Presentation - 4th and 5th Grade Focus

4th grade team - “Soft Starts”:

  • Start their day with STEM activities as opposed to desk work to warm up for the day - promotes creativity
  • Shared ideas for maker toys - OZMO, Magnatiles, 3D printer, Gravitrax

5th grade team - 5th grade math:

  • Use the workshop model - mini lesson and group work with teacher
  • Pre Assessments - not used for grading, used to form small groups
  • Standards based reporting and how it works

  • Ways to practice at home - wrap ups, flashcards, Reflex math

Committee Reports

Treasurer’s Report

  • Reviewed income and expenses
  • Fun Run income will be announced during Friday’s assembly

Apparel  Sales 

  • Raised $888 to date
  • Will increase once excess socks are sold for $11 per pair
  • Socks may be purchased in the office or during movie night


  • Very successful so far this year but NEED volunteers
  • 593 total runners, 27 have qualified for Grand Blue Mile

Staff Appreciation 

  • Will distribute items during movie night
  • Donations have been requested through newsletter and facebook 

New Business

  • Movie Night - October 12th, we will be serving goldfish and water
  • Book Fair - November 8-16, the theme is Enchanted Forest
  • Restaurant night - Panchero’s, Nov 5th

Future Meetings - Topics

  • November 6th - Grade level focus - Kindergarten / First
  • January 8th - Cindi McDonald, Superintendent of Waukee Schools
  • February 5th - Grade Level Focus - 2nd / 3rd
